Overview and Purpose
The In-Depth Tumor Board: Biologic Therapy for Breast Cancer symposium will address current areas of debate in the use of biologic therapies for breast cancer. Specifically, emphasis will be given to biologic agents targeting HER2 and angiogenic pathways. Treatment options for patients with HER2+ breast cancer at early and later stages of disease will be compared, focusing on issues such as risk assessment, cardiac safety, and defining resistance. In addition, first-line treatment options for patients with HER2- metastatic breast cancer will be discussed. These issues will be addressed through practical case-based presentations and discussions, and recent trial results will be reviewed and integrated into a debate format in which timely or controversial aspects of patient management will be discussed.
Target Audience
This educational program is directed toward medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists with an interest in the treatment of breast cancer. No specific skills or knowledge other than a basic training in oncology are required for successful participation in this activity. Fellows, oncology nurses, oncology physician assistants, and pharmacists who are interested in the treatment of breast cancer are also invited to attend.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this symposium, you should be able to:
-
Evaluate treatment options for HER2+ early-stage breast cancer, including special subsets such as patients with node-negative disease and patients with cardiac risk factors
- Compare efficacy and safety data on treatment options for HER2+ metastatic breast cancer Assess the clinical utility of incorporating angiogenesis inhibitors as first-line therapy in metastatic breast cancer
- Assess the clinical utility of incorporating angiogenesis inhibitors as first-line therapy in metastatic breast cancer
